Our Architects Weigh in on Their Favorite Trends in the Industry

ree

Architecture is evolving faster than ever, driven by environmental priorities, shifting community needs, and renewed appreciation for craft and creativity. A handful of our architects shared the trends that they enjoy seeing the most.

One of the most influential movements is adaptive reuse, a practice Amber praises for its ability to breathe new life into existing structures. As cities grow and change, reworking what we already have not only preserves cultural character but also offers a more sustainable alternative to new construction.

Sustainability also appears in the growing attraction to biophilic design, a trend Nick points to as essential for improving mental and physical well-being. By integrating natural light, greenery, and outdoor-inspired spaces, architects are creating environments that heal, energize, and connect people more directly with the natural world.

Material innovation is pushing the field forward as well. Samantha highlights the rise of hemp-based materials, glass blocks, and the creative reinvention of traditional elements like brick and stone. These choices reflect both ecological awareness and a desire to blend old and new in expressive ways.

Rebecca notes another technology gaining momentum: prefabrication. Prefab construction offers speed, efficiency, and ample room for creativity. These qualities that make it especially appealing as architects look for scalable, cost-effective solutions.

Addressing affordability and equity, Chris points to one of the most pressing issues today: attainable housing. With changes in zoning laws, building codes, and financing incentives, cities are prioritizing accessible, market-rate homes. This shift may reshape urban landscapes in the years ahead.

Together, these perspectives reveal a discipline balancing innovation with responsibility—where sustainability, creativity, and human-centered design guide a future that’s both forward-thinking and deeply rooted in place.
