At the end of May, we welcomed Daniel Svistun, Architectural Student Intern, to our team.

Daniel is originally from Vancouver, Washington and his family moved to the Ozarks when he was ten. He is currently pursuing his Master of Architecture from Drury University and will graduate in 2027. Daniel is a child of parents who immigrated from the former Soviet countries of Ukraine and Georgia. He grew up in a large family and is the second among nine children. He has one older brother, three younger brothers and four younger sisters. Outside of his studies and time at BRP, Daniel enjoys fishing, camping, ping pong, spikeball, cornhole and more!

Since joining the team Daniel has worked on several projects for BRP. One of the projects he has helped with has been the Preliminary Schematic Design package for a casino expansion. The work he did consisted of modeling elements such as the exterior glazing systems and various other aspects.

One of Daniel's favorite things he has noticed while being at BRP has been the studio culture, as everyone helps each other when in need. Daniel said that overall he is most excited to see what else he can help out with and to continue learning.

Let's get to know Daniel better...

Who or what inspired you to pursue architecture?

"From a young age, I was inspired and encouraged by my mom to continue painting and drawing, skills that later helped me excel in architecture school. Growing up in a large family, I have always been encouraged to think of space in terms of how it is used, shared, and designed. In high school, taking several architecture and STEM courses along the GO CAPS program where I shadowed local firms, including BRP, confirmed my interest in architecture. I realized I wanted to design spaces that not only look good but, most importantly, fulfill the client's vision while improving the everyday lives of people, especially in communities like my own."

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

"I am most definitely a night owl."

What's your favorite class that you've taken at Drury and why?

"I would say my favorite class is either Drawing I or Graphic Design I. Taking Drawing I during my freshman year allowed me to learn unique skills, especially proportioning techniques for perspective drawings. In Graphic Design I, I was introduced to the Adobe Creative Suite, learning programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and some InDesign. These tools have improved the quality and presentation of my architectural boards and layouts, helping me express my ideas more clearly and professionally."

What's your favorite food or restaurant?

"I love protein, so I would have to say a nice steak bowl from Chipotle is my go-to, but I also enjoy a nice New York strip from Texas Roadhouse."

If you could gain a new skill in 10 minutes, what would it be?

"I would love to becomes fluent in several more languages, including Italian, Spanish, and French."

What are you most excited about in taking this position?

"I am excited to experience and learn from the truly skilled and exceptional people at BRP to hopefully create meaningful places for many people to experience. I want to understand the professional side of architecture, spanning from project planning and design to construction documentation, among many other things."

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

"I love fishing, especially during paddlefish season, where I fish in the Lake of the Ozarks or Table Rock. Trout fishing can also be fun in sports such as Forsyth. I hope once I am out of school I will find more time for this."
