‘Tis the season for wiffle ball and patio sipping. The BR&P team is back and semi-less athletic than ever as the Downtown Springfield Association’s Wiffle Ball League begins its second year. A new year brings new changes. One is the formation of two leagues, the Queen City Competitive League and the Sandlot Recreational League. Being the athletic standouts we are, we decided the Sandlot was more our speed.

The season opened on a beautiful May day at Mother’s Brewing Company, one of the five playing fields in downtown Springfield. After some warm up pitches and beer bicep curls, BR&P was ready to take the field against the City of Springfield team. Competition was fierce. The other team could hit, which ultimately led to a 5-1 BR&P loss. Luckily, the league is more about having fun than being competitive.

While playing in the Wiffle Ball League is enjoyable, it’s also an unconventional networking opportunity. During games, it’s an excellent time to talk with fellow downtown business men and women, all while enjoying local beer. The league also brings energy and revenue to downtown areas that may not see that on a Wednesday night.
Follow us throughout the summer as we try to make the playoffs, or at least, to the next inning!
