BRP Architects is proud to be working on the renovation of the Raphael Hotel, a treasured landmark in Kansas City’s historic Country Club Plaza. With nearly a century of history, the Raphael has long been recognized for its architectural charm and cultural significance, and we are excited to contribute to its continued legacy.

Originally built in 1927 as the Villa Serena Apartments, the Raphael reflects the elegance and European-inspired architecture of its time. In 1975, it was converted into one of the country’s first boutique hotels, setting a standard for unique guest experiences with its character-rich design. Today, the Raphael is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a cornerstone of Kansas City’s architectural heritage.

Our involvement in this project began with a feasibility study to explore opportunities for a lobby expansion and restaurant renovation. Through preliminary designs, we focused on improving the functionality and flow of the space while carefully preserving the historic character that makes the Raphael so unique. The challenge of balancing modern updates with respect for the building’s legacy has been both rewarding and inspiring.

This renovation is about more than just physical updates. It reflects a commitment to ensuring the Raphael continues to serve as a welcoming destination for travelers and a point of pride for the community. We approach this work with respect for the building’s history and a focus on its future, mindful of its importance to Kansas City and all who visit.

As the project moves forward, we look forward to sharing updates and insights. It is a privilege to be part of the next chapter of such a significant facility, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to its enduring legacy.
