Labor Day is only a few days away and you may be planning your last summer trip to the pool. After that, don’t pack your swimsuit away for the season, because BR&P has recently designed some cool indoor aquatic centers that have fun features for everyone!
They are:
Jones YMCA Pool Renovation & Expansion – Springfield, MO
Bolivar Aqua Zone – Bolivar, MO
Monett Area YMCA – Monett, MO
All three include play-and-spray elements, a leisure pool with zero depth entry for walk-in accessibility, splash pads, fountains, basketball goals, and a separate competition lap pool. Two of the facilities have indoor/outdoor water slides and a rock climbing wall.
These three all season aquatic centers are in different environments – one inside a retractable glass enclosure, one in a precast concrete structure, and in a renovated and expanded steel structure.
Additional indoor pool design details which are reconciled throughout the process include facility height, sunlight amounts through windows, adequate pool deck space for the number of users, and pool accessibility.
Accounting for the inherent humidity in an indoor pool is critical. Indoor air temperatures must be within a few degrees of the water temperature, or it can literally rain inside the facility. Designing HVAC systems to manage these issues requires careful mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering expertise on the design team. The MEP engineer for each of these three facilities was Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins (MFEC).
In addition to these, BR&P and MFEC have collaborated on a recent renovation of Drury University’s pool and natatorium, as well as dozens of indoor pools in hotels and motels across the United States. BR&P also recently completed a new outdoor pool facility at Hickory Hills Country Club.
