Meet Alex, Our Newest Team Member!

Meet the newest BRP team member, Alex Fernandez, Student Architectural Intern. On January 14 we welcomed him to our team.

Alex was born in Texas and grew up in Mexico City, Mexico, Bad Harzburg, Germany and Doha, Qatar. He is a fifth-year Architecture student at Drury University and will graduate in May with a Master of Architecture and minor in business administration. While attending Drury, he studied abroad in Florence, Italy as well as Berlin, Germany. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Gamma Sigma Alpha, a Greek academic honor society.

Let’s get to know Alex even more…

What’s something unique about you? I grew up in very different places (the United States, Mexico City, and Qatar) and I speak 3 different languages (English, Spanish, German).

How did you know you wanted to be an architect? I knew I wanted to be an architect when I visited an architecture firm. I got to see what architects do and I liked it. That was 10 years ago

What has surprised you the most about Springfield? I was surprised to find out that there’s a lot of outdoor activities around here. Last year I visited Fellows Lake for the first time, and I have been going there regularly since then.

What type of food can you not live without? Bacon!

Doha, Qatar

Favorite place in the world you’ve ever been? My favorite place is Berlin, Germany or Doha, Qatar. I really like them both and it’s hard to tell which one I like more.

What are you binging on Netflix? I use YouTube more than Netflix. I like watching car and motorcycle reviews and CNC machining videos.

What’s your favorite piece of architecture in the world? Either the Cathedral in Berlin or the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Berlin Cathedral and Burj Khalifa

What three famous people would you have dinner with and why? I would like to have dinner with John Lennon, David Gilmour and Jim Morrison, to talk about music.
