This Q&A is part of a series of interviews with BRP architects, designers, and others in the firm about their career journey and the impact that architecture and design can have on our communities and the collective human experience. Today, we sat down with Maks Buzhduga, architectural designer, to discuss his early experiences on job sites, the role of communication in successful design, and how BRP brings client visions to life through true collaboration.

Can you briefly describe your background and how you got started in the field of architecture?
I grew up around construction, and from an early age, whenever I wasn’t in school, I was tagging along with my dad to job sites or helping out with the never-ending DIY projects around the house. What I loved most about those experiences was seeing ideas turn into reality, watching a project go from a sketch or a conversation to something you could walk through and experience.
What motivated you to pursue a career in architecture? Were there any specific influences or experiences that led you down this path?
My motivation to pursue architecture mainly came from my hands-on experience in the construction field. I was always curious about how buildings came together, how all the individual parts and pieces combined to create something people could use, live in, or enjoy. That process of creating something functional and beautiful out of an idea is what drew me in.
What skills and qualities do you believe are essential for success in the architecture field?
Strong communication and listening skills are just as important as design talent. Being able to understand a client’s needs, collaborate with a team, and clearly express ideas is essential to every project. Also being able to adapt, and willingness to learn is crucial , since the architecture field is constantly evolving, whether it’s new technologies, shifting client needs, or changing building codes.
What is a daily habit of yours that you swear by?
Coffee. A nice hot latte is always a great way to start the day
What do you believe sets your architecture firm apart from others in the industry, and what advice would you give to potential employees who are considering joining your team?
What sets BRP apart is that we don’t just draw plans, we partner with our clients to bring their vision to life. Every project is a true team effort, and collaboration is at the heart of our process. We hold ourselves to a high standard in both design and service, striving to deliver work that not only meets practical needs but also inspires and uplifts the communities we serve.
