Intern Spotlight: Nelson Zavaleta

Nelson, born in El Salvador and raised in Modesto, California, is a fifth-year student at Drury University. He will graduate in 2020 with a Masters of Architecture. While at Drury, he studied abroad at ETSAB Barcelona School of Architecture and is involved in an intramural sports team playing flag football and volleyball. Some of Nelson’s hobbies include basketball, architecture, reading, and playing with his two huskies Achilles and Ramesses.

What made you want to be an architect?

“Growing up I really enjoyed drawing and science classes, these things together made me interested in the field of architecture.”


What’s your favorite movie?

“The Count of Monte Cristo”


Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?

“I ran a marathon in high school.”


Three words to best describe you?

“Smart, funny, awesome.”


Favorite thing to do in Springfield?

“Go to local breweries and eat at the local sushi places in town.”

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?

“I’m excited about getting more real-world experience. BRP also has a great team environment that I enjoy and am eager to learn from.”


What is on your bucket list?

“I want to try and climb Mount Everest at some point in my life.”
